STRIVING TO PRESENT ENTERTAINING AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING THEATRE SINCE 2004.

Founded in 2004, The Melodramatics Theatre Company is a theatre arts organization based in Ithaca, NY, which strives to present entertaining musical theatre productions of artistic excellence. Since its founding, the company has entertained thousands of audience members.

The Melodramatics Theatre Company is entirely student-run! We thrive off of our dedicated peers who have a passion for theatre and we are always looking for more people to join our organization! 

How we work:

  1. The core production team picks a show, purchases the rights and reaches out to individuals or sends out a call to form a creative team (i.e. director, music director, costume designer, set designer, etc.)
    OR
    A group of students form a small creative team and propose a show to the production team, who will then approve it and help find remaining creative team members.

  2. Once the show rights have been purchased and approved, information for actor and pit musician auditions are posted, with roughly 2.5 weeks to submit auditions.

  3. Mid-semester, the production team will send out a crew call for any necessary crew members. Crew members are also welcome to email the creative team if they are interested in joining the production.

Roles Breakdown

Production Team

The Production Team is in charge of:

  • The budget and purchases for each production (i.e. props, set, costumes, instruments)

  • Logistics for purchasing items and hosting events

  • Scheduling of cast and pit band rehearsals

  • Room reservations for events and rehearsals

  • Share any and all responsibilities with the creative team to ensure the show goes as smoothly as possible

Current Production Roles Include:

  • Producer

  • Assistant Producer

  • Stage Manager

  • Assistant Stage Manager

  • Band Director

Creative Team

The Creative Team is in charge of:

  • Directing and music directing the show

  • Providing budgets for respective departments (i.e. set, props, costumes, etc)

  • Designing and creating/building the necessary items for the show

Current Creative Roles:

  • Director

  • Assistant Director

  • Music Director

  • Propsmaster 

  • Lighting Designer 

  • Assistant Lighting Designer

  • Set Designer

  • Assistant Set Designer

  • Costume Designer

Marketing:

  • Photographer

Music:

  • Rehearsal Pianist

  • Conductor

  • Pit Band (audition only)

Crew:

  • Carpenter

  • Electrician

  • Dresser

  • Run Crew

Cast:

  • Actors (audition only)
